You'll have noticed that in my recipes I specify "vegan soydrink". (I know, most people call it soymilk, but I started calling it soydrink so that my vegan baby wouldn't confuse it with (yuck!) cows' milk.) "Aren't all soydrinks vegan?" some of you are probably wondering. Unfortunately, at least here in Ontario, Canada, the answer is NO. At least one of the widely available brands is NOT vegan, although I have seen it turn up occasionally at vegan potlucks. Soydrinks which are NOT vegan |

Sensational SoySoy drinks are becoming increasingly popular, and Parmalat, a company which specializes in cows' milk products, decided to get in on the game with their Sensational Soy line, which is widely available in supermarkets here in Toronto. Unfortunately, though perhaps not surprisingly, they apparently are not up on what ingredients are animal derived, and thus have the "distinction" of producing one of the few NON-VEGAN soydrinks. The problem ingredient is vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 is of animal origin, and therefore is not acceptable to vegans. There is a simple alternative, using vitamin D2, which works as well in the body AND is cruelty free (vegan). The fact that Sensational Soy is produced by a major cow exploiting company will be enough to make some people avoid it. On the other hand, you could argue that we should be encouraging Parmalat to transition to humane products. Soydrinks which ARE vegan |

So GoodAccording to the So Good FAQ, all of their soydrinks are vegan. I find that the So Good beverages are a bit sweeter than other brands, and when I use their Original flavour in my pancakes they are more inclined to burn. So Good also makes a great vegan "ice cream" which is more reasonably priced than other brands. Our favourite flavour is Butterscotch Swirl. The other flavours available are Creamy Vanilla (one of the best-tasting vegan vanilla ice creams on the market), Chocolate Supreme, Simply Strawberry, and Boysenberry Swirl. I recently found coupons for both So Good soydrink and So Good ice cream at Save.ca. Send So Good a thank you note for offering such great vegan products! |

So NiceAccording to the So Nice FAQ, all of their soydrinks are vegan. I often use So Nice in baking and it works very well. It has the advantage of being organic. Look for their delicious Noel Nog during the Christmas season. They also offer a lovely Capuccino soydrink. Send So Nice a thank you note for offering such great vegan products! |

Master ChoiceMaster Choice is a Canadian supermarket brand. I can't get their website to work right now, but they are vegan as far as I can tell. Their Original flavour is good enough to drink by itself. |
